Visionary leader and philanthropist, Shankar Prabhakar Badve, breathed his last on Tuesday

Industrialist and philanthropist, Shankar Prabhakar Badve, passed away on May 4, at the age of 82. Founder-Chairman of Badve Group of Industries (BGI), he was a significant force behind Divyang Indian Chamber of Commerce And Industry (DICCAI). 

Today, BGC is a renowned auto-component manufacturer, having presence in seven states, with 28 manufacturing facilities across the country. It also manufactures sheet metal, tubular, and more. As part of social responsibility, the company was a major donor at DICCAI. Shankar not only flourished the company but also mentored DICCAI. 

As Shankar graduated from College of Engineering Pune (COEP) in Mechanical stream, he joined Bajaj Auto Limited, where he worked for 37 years. Taking inspiration from his father, Dr. Prabhakar Badve, post retirement Shankar founded BGC along with his son, in 1987. With a humble beginning, today the company has made a mark for itself in the industry. Years of sincere efforts, ethics, turning every challenge into an opportunity, BGI today has a turnover of Rs. 5,000 crore. The company caters to major OEMs such as Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra, Honda Motors, to name a few. 

DICCAI’s scope of work includes food insurance scheme for around 2500 Divyangs (differently-abled), free distribution of healthy and wholesome food across 18 centres in Pune initiated in April this year, and production of masks by the differently-abled members, thus creating employment opportunities for them.

The industry has mourned the loss of one of its veterans, who is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
