Nationwide campaign brings cheer to over 19,000 senior citizens
THE much-anticipated 36th Sports Toto Chinese New Year ang pow donation campaign by STM Lottery (formerly known as Sports Toto Malaysia) is bringing joy to over 19,000 needy senior citizens nationwide.
The campaign was launched at Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun in the presence of Sports Toto chairman Datuk Seri Robin Tan and Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus.
Over 3,000 eligible senior citizens, including those from four old folks homes, joined the launch.
Tan said, “It has been very difficult for all of us during the Covid-19 pandemic but we managed to weather the challenges.
“We continued the campaign during the pandemic by donating to 241 old folks homes in the country.
“We are very excited to bring back the public donation campaign to allow eligible senior citizens nationwide to join.”
Held in 48 cities and towns, the six-day donation campaign ends today.
Each beneficiary will receive an ang pow, a mini hamper and mandarin oranges.
STM Lottery thanked Berjaya Times Square for providing the venue for the launch and expressed its appreciation to over 800 employees and Toto agents who contributed to making the campaign a success.
Since the inception of the campaign in 1988, STM Lottery has contributed more than RM24mil to benefit over 437,000 needy senior citizens in the country.
The donation campaign is part of the Helping Hands programme, which is a corporate social responsibility initiative by STM Lottery.
Apart from festive donations, the programme also supports national sports development and other social sustainability projects such as sports sponsorships, food banks and environmental conservation.
